Company Security Officer (CSO) Course
Develop the knowledge and practical competence required to perform the responsibilities of a Company Security Officer under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
Course description
The Company Security Officer Course emphasizes the responsibilities of the Company Security Officer under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and provides practical guidance for ensuring compliance with international maritime security requirements.
The course is based on the principles established by the International Maritime Organization through the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), Chapter XI-2, the ISPS Code, and the learning outcomes identified in IMO Model Course 3.20 — Company Security Officer.
Participants will develop an understanding of security threats, risk-assessment methodologies, security planning, incident response, security drills and exercises, security equipment, audits, and the continuous improvement of company security systems.
Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
Explain the maritime security framework established by SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
Describe the duties and responsibilities of a Company Security Officer.
Identify security threats and apply appropriate risk-assessment methodologies.
Develop, maintain, implement, and monitor company and ship security policies and procedures.
Support the preparation, review, and maintenance of Ship Security Plans.
Plan and evaluate security drills, exercises, audits, and continuous-improvement activities.
Coordinate security matters with Ship Security Officers, Port Facility Security Officers, company management, and relevant authorities.
Organize incident response, security communications, records, and follow-up actions.

Marine, safety, quality, compliance, and operations managers or supervisors.

Requirements
Valid government-issued identification.
Company endorsement or proof of assignment, when applicable.
Basic knowledge of ship operations, safety management, or maritime security is recommended.
Participants should bring a notebook and other materials specified in the final course confirmation.
