
Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) Course
Specialized knowledge, practical skills, and competencies for performing the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer in accordance with the ISPS Code and IMO Model Course 3.21.
Course description
The Port Facility Security Officer Course is designed to provide the knowledge and competencies required to perform the duties and responsibilities of a PFSO under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. It is developed in accordance with IMO Model Course 3.21.
Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
Explain the purpose and requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
Describe the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer.
Identify security threats, vulnerabilities, and appropriate protective measures within a port facility.
Support the conduct and review of a Port Facility Security Assessment.
Develop, maintain, implement, and supervise a Port Facility Security Plan.
Plan and evaluate security drills and exercises.
Coordinate security activities with company, ship, port, and government security stakeholders.
Maintain security records, reports, communications, and procedures for responding to security incidents.
Intended participants
Appointed or prospective Port Facility Security Officers.
Port facility security, safety, compliance, and operations personnel.
Terminal managers, supervisors, and personnel involved in implementing port facility security measures.
Personnel who support security assessments, security plans, drills, exercises, audits, or regulatory compliance.
Requirements
Valid government-issued identification.
Company endorsement or proof of assignment, when applicable.
Basic familiarity with port facility operations and maritime security is recommended.
Participants should bring a notebook and other materials specified in the final course confirmation.
